Classy Canines in the movies

Movie star dogs have been around forever and boy were they class acts. Lassie could infiltrate enemy lines, lead a country doctor through raging floodwaters to the bedsides of the frail and the dying and find lost children in the depths of the forest. Lassie had many different owners including Liz Taylor.Rin Tin Tin ( Rinny) for short could lead a whole platoon and rescue soldiers and civilians in danger as well as being a loyal companion to the infantry.

Rinny had a brave little boy, Rusty, to love and protect him. Together they shared many adventures, solved many mysteries and saved many lives.

My favourite by far,however, is Asta from ‘The Thin Man’ series. Asta was a crime fighter who helped his owners Charles and Nora solve many a murder mystery usually involving gangsters.

Extremely cheeky and very clever at finding clues he could appear out of nowhere with new pieces of evidence clenched tightly between his teeth. His would toy with it a little before devulging any information.
Often he would be on the run with charles in hot pursuit leading him to the latest victim or to the perpetrator. Perhaps it is because he reminds me so much of my dog, Lester, that I love him best of all.Love my dog.

pet travel Why is it that one cannot travel with one’s pooch in Australia? In America it is possible to take your best doggie friend along with you on trains and planes and even on buses. They can even sit on the seat right next to you .

In Paris and all over France dogs are allowed to accompany one in all the best hotels and one is not prevented from renting an apartment in a fashionable burb just because of a furry appendage.

So if my dog is cute,well trained and good with people why is he discriminated against? In this horrible heat he cannot even walk along the beach. Certainly if one drives this is not an issue but not everyone want’s to risk it on the open highway. My fluffy fellow is my hero. He deserves a nice comfy bed in a nice comfy hotel.

Pissport….check

poop bag ….check

barf box….check.

Lorster

There once was a very brave little dog

Lorster was his name

When his mum would wander wey awrf

He’d howl “Lorst again”!

And so it was this scruffy boy

Became a pampered pet

And all were radiant with joy

When he flew in a lear jet

He took the bus to Timbuktoo

Rode the Ghan to Alice Springs

He drove south to Jinderoo

And did lot’s of crazy things

But never once did he lose his mum

Always awake and alert

And never once did clean his bum

On someone else’s dirt.

Lester’s Bid for Movie stardom

This dog on the front cover of The Saturday Evening Post was a movie star. His name was Asta. Sounds like my name; ‘Lester’. Don’t you think that’s a great name? Anyway he was the star of ‘The Thin Man’ series.
I have always dreamed of being in the movies like Toto and Lassie and Rin Tin Tin and I think that this may just be my year. I’ve been practising new tricks and perfecting old ones like my famous sideways walk. I am of course obsessed with chasing balls and love catching frisbies while still air bound. I run pretty fast and jump pretty high. When chased by big dogs I like to use the zig zag technique to out smart them. In short I am cute, intelligent and stylish.
